Made slowly, by hand, to be used every day.
Oldmoss is a small pottery studio. We throw and glaze mugs, bowls and vases in small batches, and teach anyone who wants to try the wheel.
What comes off the wheel
Everything is thrown or built by hand, glazed in house and fired twice. Each piece is a little different, and that is the point.
Tableware
Plates, bowls and mugs that stack, go in the dishwasher and hold up to daily use.
Vases and planters
Larger forms with drainage where they need it, in glazes that pool and break at the edges.
Custom orders
A matching set for a new home, or a gift made to a size and color you choose. Allow a few weeks.
From a lump of clay to something you use
Good pottery cannot be rushed. This is how a piece moves through the studio.
Throw
Clay is centered on the wheel and pulled up into shape, or built by hand from coils and slabs.
Dry
Pieces rest slowly for days so they do not crack. Patience is most of the craft.
Fire and glaze
A first firing makes the clay hard. Then glaze goes on by hand before the second firing.
Finish
Bottoms are sanded smooth and every piece is checked before it leaves the studio.
